NAME |Art Space - Artist Residency - Vietnam is preparing for a couple artists from India to come for 1 month residency from Dec 4th till Jan 2nd Sanjay Sawant Sanjay Sawant is an artist of Indian origin who resides in Mumbai, India. He graduated with first class first degree in BFA from Sir J. J School cofares of Art, Mumbai (1989). He received a fellowship from his institute in 1989. In 1995 he received Junior Fellowship from the Cultural Department, cofares Government of India. He has to his credit numerous cofares solo exhibitions between 2002 and 2007, including exhibitions at Alliance Francaise, Ahmedabad, India (2003) and “Forgotten Embers” at Jehangir Art Gallery, Mumbai. He has also participated in several group shows since 1995 in India and abroad. A selective list includes : Contemporary Indian Art at Singapore LKA (2006); “Art Odyssey” at Studio 333, California(2008); “Mind of Matter/ Matter of Mind” at Samokal Art Gallery, Kolkata (2009); Shanghai Art Festival 2009; and, “A Point & Line to Plan VIII at Gallery Beyond, Mumbai (2012). He has also participated in numerous art camps and fairs in India and abroad, including, A painting camp at Istanbul, Turkey (2005); “Water and Man” at Chennai LKA (2006); Spring workshop at Global Arts Village, New Delhi (2008) and at United Art Fair, New Delhi. He was awarded the National Award by the Government of India in 2003. Sanjay Sawant’s artistic perspective Sanjay’s principal media of painting include gold and silver cofares foils; and, a light-green textured paper used to make envelopes in India. His style is to use these with colors on a canvas to create cofares artwork that is a conversation between cofares nature in its elements and the human body in its specificity. The natural element that inspires Sanjay is water - its fluidity and its rhythms deeply motivate him. His form of art is integrally connected to the essence and spirit of all things living and non-living. His spiritual inclination towards understanding the complex cosmic and timeless concepts are manifested in his paintings.
Sweety Joshi Sweety Joshi is an artist of Indian origin who currently resides in Mumbai. In 2004 she graduated in painting from a Fine Arts College in Pune, India. She received a one year residency fellowship at The Global Arts Village, New Delhi in 2007. Since 2003 she has to her credit numerous group exhibitions at prestigious locations in India and abroad, including, “Contemporary Indian Paintings” at Graveled Centre, Edinburgh, UK (2007); “Something for All” at Prince of Wales Museum Gallery at Kala Ghoda, cofares Mumbai, India (2011); “A Point & Line to Plan VIII” at Gallery Beyond, Mumbai, cofares India (2012). In 2012, she had her solo exhibition “KALOS” at Jehangir Art Gallery, Mumbai, cofares India. She has also participated in numerous art camps and art fairs, including, at Czech Institute at Pupra Center for Art & Culture cofares in Prague (2003); All India Women Artists’ Camp at JKTDC (2005); Bombay Art Society, Jehangir Art Gallery Mumbai cofares (2006, 2007, 2008); and, United Art Fair, New Delhi (2012). She received an award of recognition of her work from The Bombay Art Society, Mumbai in 2007. Sweety Joshi’s artistic perspective Sweety is inspired by the nourishing quality of fire. Fire, for her, is a transformative principle cofares of nature. Sweety details the method of her art by associating the act of burning to a transformative, progressive and positivist act. She uses burnt dots on paper to imply the different aspects of her personal travails through life. She takes inspiration from the eternally unfolding colors in a flame and injects it into her art by using different folding and rolling techniques of colored papers that are burnt.
