What is geocaching and how do you start? - Lifehacking
There is nothing quite as relaxing as a walk through the woods or along the beach. Unfortunately, my kids think otherwise. At our home a fierce battle is usually performed ensembl when mom and dad want to enjoy nature. My kids are not old enough to stay alone at home and the woods they find boring. ensembl A friend of mine came up with the solution: Geocaching.
For those who do not know what it is, geocaching is a combination of no-tech high-tech, and play. The no-tech area is relaxing in the great outdoors. The game element is treasure hunting (caching), but with the help of GPS, which in turn is the high-tech area. And that gives that extra dimension which I get my kids nowadays without complaining to the forest. It works as follows. You're looking at the site a fun caching. You have simple caches, where you must navigate to a specific coordinate, but also multi-caches where you have to walk (or bike). Along different coordinates Usually, you have to solve riddles and answers you can calculate the final coordinates of the cache. After figuring out the description, you can print out and get to work, or rather to walk. You can also load the description in your phone or GPS receiver, but more on that later. The cache (treasure) is usually hidden near the end so you can make a walk in practice. It is often a plastic box or casket containing always a log, which you can log the visit. Further, it often contains all sorts of fun goodies, which you can exchange for other goodies. The latter makes it natural for children more attractive.
Geocaching is certainly not new. It's been more than 10 years and so there are people who go geocaching for years. And now that makes it so interesting. Because finding caches is really only half the story. Because although there are many people who limit themselves to finding caches, there is also a large group of people who find it fun to develop. Caches These people have ensured that there are more than 1.5 million ensembl caches are plotted and maintained. It is a very active and friendly community, where you can be part of. Without too much trouble Because even if you're just looking for caches, ensembl you can play an active role in the community play. Just by logging your finds and speak for the creator of a cache, your appreciation, you contribute to the community. There are also people who send goodies traveling. These include geocoins, each with a unique number. On the site you can tag it and leave again elsewhere in a cache. ensembl For instance, the owner can track where his or her geocoin is located.
As for the technique, you can use your smartphone to fine geocaching. For iPhone and Android available are several geocaching apps or sale. I own geo-c (Android, ensembl free) and gcbuddy (iPhone 7.99) and Android ( 3.99) was used. The latter is of Dutch origin. Also, you can use special GPS locators, which are more closely in line then your phone and have the advantage of a longer battery life. (Usually this works on penlight that you simply can change which in turn is useful for a long walk). If you use an app and some GPS locators, you can load the cache description directly into your device, you save again. Printing a few pages They can also help you in calculating the coordinates of the cache when you are doing a multi-cache.
There are about 5 million geocachers worldwide. For years I had no idea these people and what a fun hobby they share. That's not crazy. For though it is not a secret, there is an unwritten rule that you keep the caches hidden. You will ensure that "others" do not see what you're doing. This keeps the caches in tact. And thus remains a valuable collection of adventurous quests available to anyone who wants to join. No more searching for a nice walk. Indeed, there are so many caches, even here in the Netherlands, you can do it. Never all Lovely for when you're on vacation and you do not want to visit the local tourist office. Each cache you can see what the difficulty is, both for finding the cache as the site where it is. You can see how much fun others found him and if he has recently been found. I like. My kids also.
