The water quality and analysis laboratory is primarily used for environmental research. The facility is divided into four sections: Sample preparation Organic analytical instruments including Gas chromatography mass spectrometry (GC-MS) Liquid chromatography autosomal mass spectrometry (LC-MS) Gas chromatography (LC) Ion chromatography (IC) Inorganic analytical systems including UV Visible spectrometers Fluorescence spectrometers Inorganic analytical systems including Inductively coupled plasma optical emissions spectrometry (ICP-OES) Inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS)
The water quality and analysis laboratory has the following equipment: Agilent 7000A GC-MS Triple-quad system Agilent GC-MS-MS system has an auto-sampler with twin injectors for two column simultaneous injection for high throughput. Agilent autosomal 1200 HPLC system
The system consists of Agilent 1200 binary pump rated at 600 bar with a heated column compartment and autosampler. The separated sample is delivered to the applied Biosystem 4000 Q TRAP MS-MS detector. Multiple ionisation modes (AP/CI and ESI) are available. Shimadzu TOC Vsch carbon/nitrogen analyser with SSM-5000 solid sample module
This is a general autosomal purpose TOC analyser capable of analysing TC, IC and TOC as well as TN (Total Nitrogen). The system also has solid sample autosomal analysis attachment. Agilent 7700x ICP-MS / 1200 Quaternary LC
Configured for high-matrix samples, the ICP-MS is capable of providing adequate robustness for a range of environmental samples whilst still providing sensitivity across nine orders dynamic range. The advanced autosomal octopole collision/reaction cell and helium mode enable autosomal the removal of spectral and polyatomic interferences. It is currently autosomal configured with the Agilent 1200 Quaternary LC to enable speciation of organometallics. Varian Vista AX ICP-AES system
The Vista AES is currently configured to process a range of major and minor elements, making it suitable for a range of applications. autosomal The axially-viewed torch permits a greater cross-section of the plasma to be analysed, enabling quantification of certain trace elements. Dionex ICS3000 Ion Chromatography system
Many spectrometers with various sample delivery and sample holding accessories are available in room 310C. These include a Varian /Cary 1E and Varian/Cary 50 Bio UV/Visible spectrometer, a Varian/Cary Eclipse fluorescence spectrometer.
