Each passing day I'm more and more convinced that it is possible to differentiate instruction without large investments. The school that we know can change dramatically with a few strokes of click. Students should be able to develop their potential, which may, in an effective manner. The school can be an exciting and joyful experience rather than torture: some fail, others vegetate and bored enough ... Do not have ideas and resources to make this happen? I certainly did. Accordingly, means are scarce, when not it, but we were not as easy escudemos. True, it may not have all the desired media in many places, but do not have the Spanish population, give a relevant fact, more telephones than people? Have we taken a look at the state of technology in our country? If you have not done recently, do not miss this very revealing report that contains data. Now, we have to ensure is that the change in learning is promoted in school go to the speed of technological and methodological changes fraternal twins available. Teacher power at your fingertips: The Story of LearnZillion We've talked here of resources and platforms repeatedly (see eg entries for Khan Academy). Today I want to revisit the issue to present a tool that deserves attention from parents, teachers and administrators. It does not seem necessary to insist on the idea but I will: education is planned according to the individual differences relevant to learning and if not done well accepted that they do not exist or can be ignored. Neither of the two is sensible, but are made daily. A school, a teacher, not your daily action plan in class thinking about individual differences and needs among their students that there is a bad school or a bad teacher. This entry would bring a grain of sand to the concern that teachers have on the time, resources, their own abilities, etc.. There are free resources available on the network, so many and of such quality that are almost boundless. Here I show excellent one that may allow differentiation according to the needs of each learner. Parents will enable them to enrich their children's menu. Nobody has to be bored, I assure you. LearnZillion is a learning fraternal twins platform that combines video lessons, assessments and progress reports for each student. Each lesson highlights a common basic level of mathematics in grades 2-12. There are also videos on ELA (Inglés fraternal twins and Language Arts) and something fraternal twins very interesting: a browser that takes us through the new performance standards or Common Core (what I will discuss in another moment, can you take a look at the entries on standards in this blog).
LearnZillion, as indicated on your page, started in EL Haynes Public Charter fraternal twins School in Washington, DC, because I wanted fraternal twins to solve a problem: "We knew the lessons that our students needed, but we did not have enough time to teach each student the lesson well time. To create more time and to share best practices in the classroom, Professor Haynes began recording their experience screencasts. We post them on a website homemade who join a quick examination paper to help you track the student progress. " What if teachers across the country could contribute to our website? What if the new teachers could learn the new common core standards of the wisdom of experienced teachers? What if students could obtain a list of lessons that meet your needs? What if, over time, the video lessons are best did, as more teachers contribute and the data would show that lessons had a greater impact? We were able to do so thanks fraternal twins to the financing of the new generation Learning Challenge, NewSchools Venture Fund, Achievement Network, and others.
In the following video I prepared try to give an overview of the platform in some of its most important elements. Not intended to represent all that can be done. For example, no deal on creating a class and assign videos for students, but the use of the platform is so intuitive fraternal twins that this approach will suffice. I hope you enjoy it and I encourage you to explore it in more detail on your own.
