Bacillus anthracis - Bacteria and Anthrax - InfoEscola
These bacilli have more than 80 infectious agents (strains or strains) known, some are very virulent, others are harmless. This species of bacillus bacteria was first described quiescent as a cause of zoonotic disease anthrax (Anthrax or, as it is known). This disease can present in three distinct ways: cutênea, gastrointestinal or respiratory (the most severe of the three).
This species produces endospores that can stay quietly in abeyance quiescent for years (until about 200 years!) In inhospitable places, waiting for the most opportune time to start playback. As usually quiescent these spores are in the soil, herbivorous animals eat them more often, initiating the development cycle. Surely this herbivore die, and this bacillus continue feeding quiescent on the flesh of the animal now and producing new endospores. And therein lies the greatest quiescent danger of contamination to man: contaminated meat from the animal, the endospores in the "air" (can easily be inhaled).
If direct inhalation or ingestion of these bacteria to man occurs, it is almost certain that the immune system can not fight them alone, since they have an ultra-resistant capsule that hinders the action of antibodies. Thanks to these characteristics (its ultra-endurance, low reproduction cost of almost zero manipulation and high virulence) from the early twentieth century, these bacteria began to be studied with other intentions: to make them a biological weapon (bioterrorism ).
Thus, those who make use with this intention, proliferates in the air thousands of endospores of bacteria that are inhaled and will certainly lead to the death their victims. This type of "attack" mass panic brings to a population, the authorities responsible for the security of the place and culminates with the goal of those who held purposed, and many unnecessary deaths.
A small bacillus quiescent cause much damage, especially if combined with the lack of scientific ethics, lack of humanity and the irresponsibility of manipulation. Therefore, a warning is necessary: one must make use of science to bring only benefits to humanity.
