Bacillus anthracis is the causative agent of anthrax or anthrax (zoonosis). It is a Gram positive, aerobic and spore-forming. It is the only required pathogen Bacillus. There are three ways of acquiring the infection: inhalation of spores, ingestion of food contaminated with spores specificity or insect specificity bites of infected specificity food.
All three types of infections can be fatal, but the route through the skin is relaxed (20% mortality) according to the CDC. The disease by inhalation of spores has a mortality rate of 75%, as a gastrointestinal infection kills 60% of infected patients, even with treatment.
Bacteria are not themselves responsible for the disease: are the toxins they produce. One can treat the patient with antibiotics and killing them (they are very effective against infection), but the toxins produced remain in the body, destroying cells.
There are toxins responsible for cell death (hemorrhage, edema and necrosis), but it was felt that its effects on endothelial cells, such as blood and lymphatic vessels, were what made the disease so lethal.
The toxins bind to the CMG2 protein. The researchers administered doses of toxins in mice without CMG2 in their endothelial cells and the animals specificity died. When applied in mice without CMG2 in their heart and liver cells, the animals survived.
